The Session exists to ensure the practices and processes of the congregation are held to the standards of our faith expressed in Scripture and the Book of Common Order. It sounds like a very difficult and onerous job, however, when the Session is focused on prayer and determined to follow Jesus Christ, our Prophet, Priest and King as the Scripture outlines then the task is not so fraught with trouble. The dedicated people who undertake this responsibility are elected from the congregation and serve as term elders in the "new tradition" of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
At Knox the Session functions very much like a small group in prayer, in community and compassion for those under our care.
